Before and after the formation of current BJP-IPFT coalition government, it has been clearly announced that a “new recruitment policy” would be introduced to select best employees for working under the government. It openly declared to discontinue walk-in-interview recruitment system due to corruption in final selection based on political channel links. This step was taken to curb out corruption in recruitment and select only the most deserving, competent and suitable candidates.
This is why all the walk-in-interviews conducted under the previous Communist government were dismissed, and compulsory written examinations and personal interviews are to be conducted for any new recruitment in various government departments. Hence, it has become tougher, harder and more complex to be selected for any permanent government job.
As you know very well that Tripura has the highest number of unemployed job aspirants, who have academic qualifications but no sufficient number of vacancies to employ them. The rough estimate of unemployed youths as well as over-aged persons is approximately 7 lakhs.
Now I'm sure you have realised how much serious exam preparation is necessary to survive and establish your future life. You won't get any job until and unless you can prove your efficiencies and potentialities to work under the government. All the best and top government officials were/are recruited by formal selection process.
I must mention few examples, such as Junior Engineer under various technical departments are recruited through Tripura Engineering Service (TES) exam conducted by Tripura Public Service Commission or TPSC in short. Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) or other different police officials are employed under Tripura Police Service (TPS) selection process. Another example is a District Collector (DC) under Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) is employed under Tripura Civil Service (TCS) examination.
Similarly, several other posts like Inspector of Taxes, Inspector of Excise, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Supervisor, Labour Inspector, Food Inspector, Cooperative Inspector, Superintendent of Taxes etc. are formally recruited under the TPSC Combined Competitive Examination (TPSC-CCE) for Miscellaneous Posts. Only most qualified and competent candidates are eligible for final selection and are offered the desired jobs.
This article, as its title says, is intended to share the methods to start preparation for any exam under TPSC, right from beginning to end, so that the dreams of cracking exam becomes easier and fulfilled. Please continue reading if you are serious and desperate for permanent government jobs.
Notification for any new recruitment is generally published approximately 4-5 months (or longer in Tripura state) before the actual conduct of examination. This is when you apply for the examination and start your preparation.
1. Collect Previous Years Examination Question Papers
This is the first and foremost step you need to take before you start preparation for your targeted exam. You can collect previous years question papers either from TPSC library or buy books related to TPSC exams which include old question sets. You can find them in libraries located in Orient Chowmuhani. These books are published from local Tripura publishers and are a bit expensive than other books. You can also collect old question papers from your friends who have appeared or cracked these exams (if any).
2. Analyse the Examination Pattern
The reason I suggest you to collect old question papers is because you need to clearly understand the examination pattern before you appear for it. Here you need to observe what type of questions are asked for how many marks so that you can prepare accordingly. It will give you clear idea regarding the examination pattern. Appearing exam without understanding its pattern is more like wasting your precious time.
3. Collect the Exact Syllabus of the Concerned/Targeted Exam
Different exams have different syllabuses, which may change timely depending upon the wish of the government or TPSC Board. Hence, you always need to stay updated with latest news.
4. Try to Understand Your Strength and Weakness Subject
When you check the syllabus of your targeted exam, you need to recognise which one of the subjects is your strength or weakness. For example, some find arithmetic section difficult to crack, specially for those who are from Arts stream. Some candidates even find English section too difficult to understand than any other sections, and so on.
Even among the available subjects, some have less knowledge about history, geography, science or economics. This step is a must for preparation for any examination, not only TPSC.
5. Buy Books or Notes of the Subjects Included in the Syllabus
This is optional for you to either buy books on these subjects or collect notes from your friends or good coaching centres in Agartala. Without books and notes it's impossible to crack any competitive examination.
6. Practically Start Your Preparation
When you finish doing all the above 5 steps, it's time for you to practically start preparing for your targeted examination. I could only advise you here by words and theory, but final results depend on how you perform during practical exam time. It is you who should prepare by action rather than listening or reading my advice.
7. Last Step - Take Pre-Test/Mock Test 10 days Before Exam
I strongly suggest you to take pre-test or mock test right 10 days before exam to make yourself perfectly ready for the exam. Either it will boost your confidence or will help you to realise your weaknesses before the exam. You should take these test according to the syllabus to make sure you are not doing excessive preparation which may be unnecessary for the exam.
This is a must step before exam.
8. Optional: Join Coaching Centre if you can Afford or Arrange Time
This is completely an optional step for you to join a coaching centre. It depends on whether you have time or you can afford it. It also depends on the level of your knowledge/strength of preparation for the exam. If you consider yourself to have enough preparation, then you can omit this coaching step. Otherwise, I recommend you to join it as early as possible before the exam date.
For this you need to stay in Agartala town for at least 3-6 months for coaching and deep preparation. But I strongly suggest you to join coaching if you are new to competitive exam or just finished your education and searching for jobs.
The reason I suggest you to join regular formal coaching is because it keeps you focused, brain-refreshed and concentrated when you get guidance under good faculties and teachers. You will also meet other aspiring classmates who have same motivation and dedication for seriously cracking the exam.
Always remember this, when you stay idle without any action, your brain gets dull and lazier to prepare for any competitive examination.
I personally recommend you to join in TIME coaching centre in Melarmath if you are very weak in numerical, quantitative, reasoning or English sections. In 2015, I also joined it for 6 months coaching and my experience in interacting with faculties and official staffs helped me a lot.
I wouldn't say anything about School of Science, because I didn't join it, except I went there twice for enquiries regarding coaching fees and time schedules.
Another coaching centre I need to mention here is Vajirao IAS Academy located above Bharatiya Mahila Bank near Math Chowmuhani market in Agartala. The fee structure for this coaching institutes is more expensive than other similar institutes, but I admire the way they focus on candidates' improvement and motivation. Moreover, this institute has faculties from outside of Tripura with experiences and standard.
This is all.
