To get a permanent government job, one needs to struggle as long as he finally gets one. It is possible only after hard work and tireless effort. This article is for beginners who find it difficult to understand the examination type, syllabus, pattern and understand the final score calculation.
First of all let me introduce about TPSC Combined Competitive Exam (or TPSC CCE in short). TPSC CCE is completely different than TCS/TPS (Tripura Civil Service/Tripura Police Service) exam conducted every year by the same TPSC board. Usually TPSC CCE offers more vacancies and posts than TCS/TPS, but it also varies depending on latest vacancies.
TPSC Combined Competitive Examination for Miscellaneous Posts is a very crucial yearly recruitment process for filling up vacancies for various seats under various departments of Tripura State Government. This recruitment process is conducted almost in every year and eventually most competent candidates are selected for various posts.
On 1st January, 2018, Tripura Public Service Commission published another official notification regarding its selection process, which underwent several changes such as number of stages of examinations, syllabus and merit list preparation. Continue reading to know details about these changes.

Selection Process:
Earlier TPSC Combined Competitive Examination had been conducted in 3 different stages: – Preliminary, Main and Personality Test with different syllabus structures. However, FROM NOW ONWARD this selection process will consist of only 2 stages, they are – Main Examination and Personality Test, omitting the Preliminary Examination.
Main Examination – Main Examination was previously conducted in descriptive pattern (written), whereas FROM NOW ONWARD it will be completely conducted in the form of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) pattern in OMR sheets.
This examination will be covered in 2 separate papers: – General Studies Paper 1 and General Studies Paper 2.
Paper 2 examination will be held in the morning for 2 hours duration of 200 marks. Paper 2 will be held at afternoon, for 200 marks with 2 hours duration.
Overall, Main Examination counts to 200 marks + 200 marks = 400 marks.

Personality Test – This is the last test a candidate has to appear to show his effective and dynamic personality.
Before appearing for Personality test, one has to fill a blank paper for Job Preferences. This blank paper is obtained and submitted to the TPSC counter office. It gives the option to select the choices of the available posts by arrangement in ranking order. For example, one can give CDPO as his first choice, followed by Food Inspector, Cooperative Inspector, Labour Inspector, ICDS Supervisor and so on.
Personality test (or personal interview or viva voce) is an oral test conducted by panel members to those candidates who have qualified in Main Examination. It is generally arranged in alphabetical order of candidates’ names affixed on different dates.
This test is conducted in TPSC board room, where total 5 panel members (sometimes it may vary) call the candidates and ask questions on different topics. The whole test duration depends on the candidates; it may be from 8 minutes to even 30 minutes based on the panel members’ choice.
During personal interview, questions are generally asked from –
* Personal identification,
* Educational background,
* Job experiences (if any),
* One’s common sense,
* Also detailed knowledge about various posts selected as preferences.
The targeted marks for Personality Test is 40 (earlier it was 50), which shall be added along with the marks scored in the Main Examination out of 400 marks.
Final Merit List:
As per the guidelines included in the newly amended selection process for TPSC CCE, final merit list will be prepared on the basis of the total marks obtained in the Main Examination and marks obtained in the Personality Test. Merit position of candidates who secure equal marks will be finalized based on their seniority of age.
Therefore, the overall targeted score for each candidate is 400 + 40 = 440, for securing the job.
It is further provided that in the list of recommendation, merit position of candidates securing equal marks in aggregate and also of the same age, will be decided on the basis of the percentage of marks obtained in the minimum educational qualification prescribed in Recruitment Rules/Service Rules.
Ranks of the candidates are not prepared for the candidates beyond the recommendation list and waiting list (if there be any).
